Description en-US:  Music Theory is a two-semester course designed for students who have successfully completed one year of formal training in music at the high school level. Music Theory is a rigorous course designed to expand and to enhance the skills of the serious high school musician. Students in Music Theory examine components of music composition, melodic practices, theories of harmony, and other musical concepts. Students analyze music from different stylistic periods and develop notation, aural, and sight-reading skills. Emphasis is placed upon the application of rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and other compositional devices into original compositions. One year of formal training in music at the high school level is a prerequisite for this course. The Standards for Accreditation requires a one-half unit course of "Survey of Fine Arts" or one-half unit of an advanced art or advanced music course.
